Simple tips to keep fence panels lasting longer
Fence panels face constant exposure to rain, wind, and UV rays. Over time, this can lead to:
A little preventative maintenance now can save you the expense and hassle of replacing panels later.
Dirt, moss, and algae not only make your fence look tired but can also trap moisture. Give panels a gentle brush-down a few times a year, and wash with a mild detergent or specialised wood cleaner to remove grime.
Timber panels benefit from a coat of wood preservative, stain, or paint every 2–3 years. This seals the wood against moisture and UV damage, helping it keep its strength and colour.
Loose panels, wobbly posts, or damaged fixings should be repaired straight away. Leaving them can cause further movement and structural weakness, especially during strong winds.
Overhanging branches and climbing plants can add weight and trap moisture against panels. Trim back plants to allow airflow and reduce the risk of rot.
Your fence is only as strong as its supports. Inspect posts regularly for rot or movement and replace them when necessary to prevent leaning or collapse.
